Lennox / Coil / Evaporator

Hi

I need help, I can seem to figure out how to match an evaportor/coil to my condensor and furnace.

My furnace is a Lennox m/n G26Q3-75-5
Condensor is a HSXA12-030 using a410
Air flow is upwards
it's a gas furnace

Lennox wont help me becasue I didn't buy the unit from them, and I have searched the web but the is just oo much information that I am not sure what to pick. I would like to stick with a Lennox coil and not an after market brand.

Model Numbering Systems
Introduction All Lennox product is set up with a systematic coding system for both model numbers and serial numbers. Unit model number (including any dash numbers) and serial number must always be used when referring a problem to Lennox in regard to repair parts, literature, wiring diagrams, etc. Use of proper unit identification numbers and serial numbers will greatly help in expediting any material required for these products.
Model Numbers Each unit manufactured is a duplication of a particular model. The model is identified by a "model number" which is stamped on the unit nameplate or rating plate. On residential gas and oil furnaces this identification plate is located on the inside of cabinet near the vestibule panel. On other Lennox products the plate is mounted on the outside of unit. The sequence of letters and digits in the Lennox model number reflects specific information about the unit. The figures below analyze two typical model numbers.
HS26-060-1P HS26 is the Series, 060 is the Capacity, 1P (1) is the Dash Number and (P) is the Power Characteristics.
GCS16-090-350-2Y GCS16 is the Series, 090 is the Cooling Capacity, 350 is the Heating Capacity, 2Y (2) is the Dash Number and (Y) is the Power Characteristics.
Numeral Code Numerals denote the following information:
1. The first one or two numerals indicate the series.
G14 - Series 14 gas heating unit
2. A numeral following the letter "D" or "Q" and preceding the dash indicates air movement capabilities in tons.
G14Q3 - Gas heating unit capable of moving 3 tons of air for cooling.
3. The next set of numerals following the dash, indicates thousands of Btuh heating or cooling capacity.
G14Q3-100 - Gas heating unit capable of 100,000 Btuh input.
HS22-311 - Condensing unit capable of approximately 31,000 Btuh cooling capacity.

Yours is a 3 ton Gas series 26 q3 3 ton so that a-coil is a 3 ton Seems like it could be a match but their might be more to it than that with that type freon being used.

Do you matche The coil with the Furnace or the condensor? The condensor is a 2.5ton.
  I did however hear that going 0.5 + on the evap is how it should be done. But then a guy came to give me a quote on an aftermarket evaporator and he said that I should go with a 2.5 ton and not 3.

You gotta go with the same size. No MISMATCHING !

Wrong...you may use a 3-ton coil with a 2.5 ton condenser. You will get even more efficiency. The only thing you cannot do is undersize the coil.

JW, we are talking about the BTU rating of the system, not the type of refrigerant being applied here.

Naturally if you switch to R410a instead of R-22, you will have to replace both the coil and the condensing unit. You can still oversize the coil by 1/2 a ton to make it more efficient.

If it were me, I would buy up all the R22 I could right now and stick with that type of system. They still sell them thru 2010.

R410a may be more "ecologically firendly" but unlike R-22 it is also very flammable. I don't fancy the idea of having a flammable gas running thru my house. I plan on buying 2 new condensers for my house that use R22 and keep them in storage until my old ones fail. I have a stockpile of the freon anyway.

My condensor Model # is Lennox HSXA12-030-230 it's a 2.5 ton; SEER is 12.20 or 13. It is a 410a refrigerant and direction of airflow is upwards.; my furnace m/n is G26Q-75-5  I want to stick to Lennox brand.
The space where the old evaporator was 16.5" Hight / 17.5" width / and 20.5" depth.

I would like the best match to acheive the max SEERage and cool airflow.

What I need is the model # of the evap that best fits my system. anyone?

Yours is a Heat Pump system, requiring a special coil. Only a Lennox dealer can see all the choices and dimensions to match your coil. You should call one to see if he will give you a matching coil part number for both a 2.5 and a 3 ton upflow coil for heat pumps. Most of us do not have access to their systems. You may have better luck on an air conditioning specialty forum...we have limited access to specific dealers databases when it comes to air conditioning.

You'll need a licensed AC person to do the job anyway, so I'm not sure why you are bothering with the research.

If you have a 2.5 ton I would go with a 2.5 ton A-coil. My brother just went round and round with a heat pump in one of his rental houses. He got a "DEAL" on it from somebody at church. It was mismatched and never did do the job. The guy finally came out and replaced the whole thing with a matching system. So far he has had to come out 3 more times to get that one right. You would think if a guy installed a complete new system he would install a new wall thermostat that matches the system (he didn't) and ruined a board. He told my brother not to bother paying him anything. Go figure.

Finally found someone to install a new Lennox coil. My question is should I have him install a TXV or is it not necessary? When I asked him about it, he said, there are alot of problems with them, and the extra energy saving that I would get is not worth the $$.
