GE washer fills then wont run

This GE washer fills but then wont run. It is intermittent-works sometimes. Could it be the timer or lid switch.

Model GUSR2080T2WW

I would say lid switch. Have you tried bypassing it?

I have not tried to bypass it but it seems to make the distinct click when closing the lid

Since the switch assembly is partially mechanical, when the strike hits the hole it is not always consistant. The design like the washer is pretty crappy.
