Kenmore Washer 417.41142000 (front loading) drum detached. How to reattach it?

This morning the washer made loud noises during the spin cycle. I stopped it, and notices that the drum inside was misaligned. I tried to lift it and reattach it to the rubber boot on its outside, but it wasnt easy.

Any recommendations?

Hi,

Does it look like the rubber boot just come off?

If you can not turn the inside drum by hand without it rubbing on the outter tub you may have some bigger problems.

The drum does spin manually. Although it does seem to be hitting on something on its outside.

What could be wrong, some outside assembly broken? It doesnt look like that the rubber boot holds the drum solely. Some support from outside has given way??

The inside drum is held in place by a shaft in back of the drum.
The shaft is attached to the drum with three arms.

Often times something in back of the drum breaks and the inner drum needs to be replaced.

Can this be repaired by a layman aka hubby? Or should i just call a technician.

its not an easy job, but if the hubby is mechanicaly inclined he should be able to do it

its also not a cheap job, so my next question is ... do you have a water softener?  if you do, dont bother repairing it cause its going to happen again
