My washer with the above model number will fill with water then stop working. I had the motor replaced under warranty but now it is doing it again and whirpool won't honor any more free repairs. Twice it has started working again. The first time it worked for a while but not till after the water was emptied by hand. Just today I opend up the back to see if the switch was working but to my surprise i heard a hum. I spun the motor to see if it was seized and noticed a slight burnt smell. The motor spins and so does the agitator. Can you point me in the right direction. I am pretty handy just that this is my first time operating on a washing machine.

I would look in the pump for an item of clothing. I have found G strings bras and coins in them pumps. SOME REPAIR PIX WITH MANUAL

Checked the pump and nothing was in there.  The trans spins when manually rotated.  Could it be the timer switch?  If so, how do I remove it?  I have the panel pulled off, etc. but cannot get the dial to disconnect from the timer switch in order to remove.

No NO you have the same problem my brother had this week. The main drive gear inside the tranny was smooth as a babys butt stripped to hell and back. It made a heck of a scrubbing racket and would not spin. Aj has the gear and pinion HERE And I have a few repair pix HERE
