main shaft worn

I have matytag mah6700aww front load washing machine just barely off warranty and it is very loud
-when I removed belt I found bearing on rear of motor is in good shape but shaft has play inside the bearing
- what can I do? do I have to order the whole motor assembly? - I am also not sure how remove the front of the washer to get motor out?

The motors are supposed to have a slight amount of play in the shaft, mainly to accomodate the spinning drive pulley on the tub. The noise you hear may well indeed be the spinner bearings instead. Have you removed the rear panel yet and taken off the belt to spin the pulley by hand yet?

yes I took the belt off and spun the motor by hand and the shaft has almost 1/16" play inside the bearing

when I spin the tub by itself there is no abnormal sounds
loud sounds come from motor spinning

Well, if the motor is making those noise when spun then you can assume that a new motor is needed
