Kenmore 70 Dryer will not heat
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:03:30 PM »
Unit ignites runs for 35 seconds shuts down.  I have replaced coil valves, no luck.  Checked continuity of radiant sensor good.  Machine exhaust way is clear of lint.  Any suggestions?

If the unit does the same thing when you remove the vent hose completely, then change the thermal cutoff and hi-limit thermostat. Be sure not to run the dryer with the front off, or it will cycle off on hi-limit.

Hey repairman thanks for the info.  Still have the problem  Found the hi limit thermostat will replace.  Is the thermal cut off located on the exhaust air duct?  Thanks again.

I replaced both the thermal cutoff and the hi limit thermostat still cuts off after 30 seconds.  What should I look at next?

At this point, I would be perched behind your dryer with my voltmeter on the operating thermostat terminals, seeing if it was opening the circuit when the gas shuts off. A lot of this requires technical experience, so you may be better off calling in someone rather than throwing parts at it all day hoping one of our suggestions will work :)

Sounds like a hairline crack in the igniter. When hot it wonít fire off again until it cools down enough. Had it happen to me, and I was as stumped as you are.

Please, if you are not a technician, it's best not to confuse the situation.

If the ignitor was cracked it would not light. The unit lights fine, it just does not stay on long enough....not an ignitor issue.

I spent 11 years as a tech-care technician for Whirlpool. Many service calls on coin-op laundry equipment. Iíve seen this one twice.
