Motor stops running

Hi, I have a GE washer and the motor stops after a few seconds then will start again, then stop, then start, then stop for good for while. It smells like burning. It does the same whether in wash or spin. The amp draw seems high, should be 7-9 , but is about 12? I removed the belt, same thing happens. Does this thing have a capacitor?

I posted once before, for another washer, and I am still trying to fix that one, but I have to get a 3/4" drive ext.

I read the manual, but it did not say what might be wrong?

It could just be a bad motor. Swap motors if you have2 machines

Take the belt off and see if the motor runs. Wiggle the shaft, anymore than 1thousanths of an inch play means that sucker is polling out. If the movement up and down is more than a quarter inch thats a bad motor also.
