On them newer models you have a square plastic hole. You put a 3/4 drive into and turn it lefty loosey till it comes out. Then you lift the top half of your agitator off and then you can see the bolt that holds the bottom half onto the tranny. Get that off and lift out the bottom portion of that agitator, then you can remove the 3 bolts on the bottom and slide out the tranny. Hay you may have a broken plastic piece like the one posted above by fearless leader. Look close at the ear portion that fits into the clutch. The tip breaks and will not catch and release the brake. This looks like the latest style agitator dog and cam kit. See that bottom left hand thingy? That has a square hole in it. You unscrew that part to get the top portion out yer way then yas can get to dat bolt holding down the agitator base.

I finally got to work on it again, and I Found the brake was stuck. I got it loose, and now it spins! But, when it sopsit makes a heck of a noise, and then it sounds like a brake is going on. Any ideas?

My brother just had the same symptom. We removed the tranny and field tested it. It made a horrible noise . We then removed the clutch and the cover on the tranny and found the main gear stripped to hell and back. Replaced main gear and pinion and shes runs better than she has in years. AJ has the part priced right HERE

It is not that hard to remove the tranny and replace this part. You need a pair of snapring pliers.
