Kenmore 80 series dryer does not start

I have a kenmore 80 series dryer that is not starting. It has been getting to where up until know I have to slam the door in order to get the dryer to register that it is closed. In order to start. do I have a sensor that has gone out or something. And if I do how do I replace it?

What is the model number of your dryer? You can find the full model number on the model/serial number tag that is located on the dryer.



Your model number should start with three digits, then a dot followed by eight more digits. For example, 123.12345678

From what you described I would suspect a bad door switch.
When you open the door to look for that model number take a look for the door switch.

There should be a little tab or button that the door hits when it closes. If it's not broken off you should be able to push it in with your finger to see if you can hear it click on and off.

Them kenmore dryers has got a small metal tab called an actuator. This sticks out of a hole in the doorframe and when the door is closed it pushes against a safety switch. It could be broken or the switch itself might be bad.
