Maytag washer how to check motor?

the motor on my washing machine is making a humming noise when i turn it on.  i was wondering if anyne could tell me wht wires to ohm out to see if motor is good or not???

It could be a bad START SWITCH #22 in this diagram:

Tap it gently to see if it starts.

i tried tapping on it gently  still doesnt work .  when i turned it on and tapped on it the motor just humms .   is there anyway to check this out with a meter and wht wires should i check???

does it agitate or spin, try running the motor with the belt off.

yes i tried running it with out the belt  it just humms.  i checked the wires on the motor and they checked out to 4 ohmns on the start winding and 2 ohms on the main winding. i also checked the start switch like u said befor.  when i ohmed it  it had a hard time getting a reading. i thnk i might try  cleaning up the contacts a bit and try that .   anymore help anyone can give would be greatly apreciated.  thnks for the above responses .

does the motor shaft turn by hand easily ?

there may be a motor start capacitor...mentioned on page 97,
 but noted on the schematic as export models only.

I sometimes have luck with putting some zoomoil on the motor and working it back free but it dont last. replace the motor
