« on: January 06, 2008, 02:20:52 PM »
Dryer runs and heats up for 1-2 minutes then flame and heat goes off, but dryer continues to run. Vent pipe is metal and clean. Any suggestions.
Thank you.

After the flame turns off, does the igniter come back on and glow red? If it does, you may have to replace the split coils.

The flame goes out, the dryer continues to run and 1-2 minutes later it starts to light again, but goes out instantly.

When you say "it starts to light again", do you actualy get a flame or just the igniter glows?

I actually get a flame, but for only about 30 seconds. Ignitor coils have been replaced and same thing keeps occuring.

OK, with the dryer running, put your hand behind the vent and tell me how much air is blowing out.  Common with this model is the blower breaks or wears out where it goes on the shaft. It sounds like you're not getting enough air flow and the flame is being concentrated on the high limit thermostat shutting it off. Look at this break down. Which valve do you have? The top one or the lower one?

I have the lower valve. There seems to be decent amount of air flow---I put a piece of paper over the exhaust and it blows it away.

OK, after the 30 seconds and the flame goes out, does the glow coil come right back on? Take the 2 wires off of the safty/high limit thermostat and jump them together bypassing the thermostat. Make sure they don't touch any metal and try it again. Let me know what happens.

I have exactly the same problem and have just seen your thread.  When you jump the high limit thermostat will the flame burn continuously without going out?  If it does burn continuously does that automatically tell you that it is the blower(bad air movement) or could it also be that the high limit thermostat is faulty shutting off the flame prematurally.
Also on this unit (Maytag Gas Dryer LDG7304ABE) what is the time it would take on average for a load of laundry to dry, this way when I get it going I can see how efficient it is.
Thanks for any help at all !!!

Remove the vent hose first and try it. If it works ok you need to clean the vent hose. Bypassing the hi limit thermostat will tell you if its bad, shutting off early. A load of clothes should dry in 60 min on timed dry high heat.

Thanks Redbeard !!!

I have disconnected the vent hose and it still shuts off early, flame only lasts 10-15 seconds at a time.  Therefore correct me if I'm wrong, if i bypass the hi limit thermostat the flame will burn continuously without going out?(just to test it)  So if the flame  doesn't shut off then we have pinpointed it to the hi limit thermostat?
Thanks for all your help !!

The only thing you're testing is the high limit thermostat. The dryer flame should still turn off from the cycling thermostat. See how long the flame stays on. There should also be a good amount of air blowing out the vent with the vent hose off.

If your dryer is clean of lint and your vent is clean as well then the dryer will still only burn flames for about 30 seconds. This is the norm. The dryer constantly cycles during the drying period. What about your blower wheel? If it is stripped the dryer will take twice as long to dry clothes because the air flow aint right. Have you checked it to see if it is stripped? This is a common problem with these dryers.
