Kenmore dishwasher-Normal Wash light flashing
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:15:12 AM »
Hi all...I'm back with yet another Kenmore appliance problem.

Our dishwasher, Kenmore branded Kitchenaid/Whirlpool ran fine Sunday a.m., but tonight, when my wife pushed the start button, the display read "2" then shut off, much like it does if you cancel a cycle. Now, the normal wash light flashes, but otherwise, the unit is dead.

I've searched the site and have gotten several possibilities, from a bad thermistor to a stuck button in the control panel, to something needing a combination of keypad button pushes... :D

Don't remember for sure when we bought this thing...either 2003 or 2004. (04 most likely)

Any help would be appreciated. I HATE washing dishes by hand... :P

Hmmm...no "edit button" to edit my original post... ::)

A brief "update" of sorts.

Having worked on my own older BMW's back in the days before I became disabled, I know that sometimes, the easiest way to clear an error code is to disconnect the power source. When this first happened tonight, after trying to get it to work by careful application of an 8 lb sledgehammer to the door, :D I reached under the sink and pulled the plug...and left it that way for about an hour while I did some research and asked my earlier question.

I went back pushed each button once to (hopefully) tell if any of them were stuck, then plugged the unit back in, and Voila! the flashing light was gone and the unit started and (so far) ran like normal.

Intermittant problems like this make me nervous...you never know when something is gonna finally totally crap out...

I'd still appreciate any ideas or suggestions as to what may have caused this problem to begin with.

While it was under warranty, we had 2 or 3 heating elements replaced. Apparently it was either the wrong element from the factory as well as the first replacement...I really don't remember, but elements didn't last a year.

Regular members can not edit there topics or replies.

I use to have it set up so everyone could edit there own post but we had to many problems with it set up like that so now only AJ Team members can edit there own post.

If a regular member has addition information to add they simply need to post it.

Hope you find our site helpful.

I suspected a stuck button. Before I plugged the unit back in, I went along and pushed every button, listening for the "click" as each one engaged. When I plugged it back in, no flashing lights.

I suspected as much. I've moderated on a couple of sites over the years and have seen the havoc that can result from users being able to edit their posts beyone just a few minutes.

Thanks all. So far, it's working fine.
