kenmore washer 90 series won't fill water
« on: August 14, 2009, 10:15:32 AM »
Hi all,

I have a Kenmore washer 90 series model 110.20922990. Yesterday, it stopped filling water. Neither hot nor cold water is filled in any cycle. Would you please let me know what went wrong ? Is it due to a bad water inlet valve ? I already unplug the water hoses at the back and checked the screen/filter. They are clean with no debris.

Thanks,
Edward

Clogged Vacuum line, bad fill level switch, bad fill valve, or unpaid water bill. Does the fill valve make a humming noise when turned on?

Believe it not, it happened to me a few months ago. I arrived, checked it out, scratched my head and told him it seemed like there was no water? Sure enough, no water to his sink next to the washer!

Put some power to them water valves and see if the solenoids is good and the valves is functioning.
Get a lampcord and put some clips on it. Power up them solenoids and see if they work. That is how it is done. The coils could have continuity but the mechanical portion may be gone due to calcium lime buildup. Seen it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am out of town currently. Once I am back I will try the provided suggestion. One thing that I notice is that there is no humming sound when  the timer switch is turned on. As soon as I engaged the timer switch, the washer starts the washing cycle right away. Usually, the water will be filled in first until the desired water level is reached then it starts the washing cycle. Could the water level switch turn bad ?

BTW, I sure that I have paid my water bill and there is water available :D. As a matter of fact, I ran a hose from the garden faucet to supply the water for the washer during the initial fill and rinse cycle so that my wife can do some laundry.

Thanks,
Edward

Your air hose to the water level switch is pinched or stopped up with scum. It is sensing a full tub of water. Repair the hose and solve the problem.

Weird as it may seem I have seen just what Jumpy described. Some old lady washed a dollar store rubber rug and it fell to pieces. Clogged the pump and and screwed up the water level sump. Took about an afternoon to get all the rubber out of that machine and make it do what it had ta do. Remove the hose from the switch and blow it out. Use them lungs! It could very well be the water level control and they are very easy to replace. Just yank off the knob, unlock the tab in the rear, twist it a hair and the water level switch comes right off. Yes I have seen a lot of these fail. I would clear the tub hose first before spending any money.

I am back at home and want to report that the washer is now working. ;D
I just wiggle all the knobs, especially the water level and the main timer knobs and the washer is mysteriously filled with water again. ;D

I think Jumpy is right about the air hose. Since it is working now, I am not going to do anything but if the problem returns, I will check the air hose first.

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestion.

Be careful cause when these malfunction, sometimes they will overfill, not underfill. It has happened to me before. :o
