GE gas range electric clock stopped working

GE XL44 purchased in 1998.

Gas range with electric clock

The electric clock was working fine but suddenly stopped working.  

How do I determine what the basic underlying problem is and how do I fix it.

Not to confuse things but at the same time the oven burner started giving problems by not igniting as normal.

You definitely need a new clock, and also a new oven ignitor. Since this clock is for timing purposes only and has no direct involvement with the oven as on fancier models, it is apparent you'll need both parts.
