GE Profile self-cleaning oven doesn't work

Hi~

The self-cleaning feature on my electric, free-standing, ceramic top oven has never worked. I don't use the oven a lot, but am now in dire need of cleaning it. I press the self-clean button, it brings up the time on the display and flashes Set. I press Start and it says the door is locked (this flashes) but after about a minute it beeps and then goes back to the clock and the door unlocks. It is all electronic display and locks automatically, not manually. Other than this, it works fine. Any thoughts?

Are you setting the clean time for 3 hours when prompted?

The display says 3 hours, and I have pressed Start, and other times I have entered 3 hours (and different times up to 4 hours, as per the manual) using the keypad. It doesn't seem to make a difference. It always looks as though it is going to work but then cancels out within 30 seconds to a minute. It beeps first and then turns itself off.

Does the door on this model lock electronically or do  you have to manually latch it shut?
Also, when it "beeps" and shuts off, is there a particuler display associated with this, such as an error code?

The door latches manually and there is no error message - it simply beeps and shuts off. I forgot the number, on the door it says it is 164D3871P006-1. Is that the correct number?
