Neptune TL pulley on bottom of tub will not turn in spin direction, motor OK

I have a service manual.  Assume I need to remove the Tumblers and transmission and see why the spin tub is locked. what is typical problem with this.

Are you saying that you can remove the belt and are unable to manually turn the clutch pulley in the spin direction? The clutch is supposed to release the spin basket and spin the tub while the transmission remains neutral.


Was the machine making a growling noise in the spin cycle prior to the problem?

Yes that is what I am saying, pulley will not turn in spin direction with belt removed. Dont know about any previous noise.

Initially, I did not realize that the clutch was part of the pulley. When I did remove the pulley/clutch I found the top "one-way" clutch bearing was seized. Guess that was caused by the seal above starting to leak.

You had better plan on a  new outer tub and tranny, most likely. Maytag only made this machine for about 2.5 years to pacify the folks who won the Neptune class action settlement. They soon closed the factory in SC. Better off buying a different machine.
