Loud noise in spin cycle

This ten year old stackable has served me well except for the wax motor thing but now it looks like the bearings have given up. Is this an expensive repair? Is it something that I might be able to do and are there instructions?

The instructions are in the Neptune Stack Manual on this forum. I don't know if you want to tackle the job, becasue it involves stripping the unit down to remove the outer tub. The bearings are built into the tub and the current price on it is $542. Fortunately, it comes with a new tub seal for the rear spinner shaft plus an excellent set of instructions. Who knows how good Maytag could be if they just used better materials.

I'm sorry, stainles steel bearings and a non-rust tub seem to be pretty good materials. Where they lacked foresight was regarding customer usage. Cold water washing and non-HE detergent proved to be the undoing of Mr. Wunderlich's design. (Bearing failure from seal penetration)
