Inglis side by side Refrigerator not turning on to keep cold??

I have an Inglis side by side refrigerator I bought in 2000, and all of a sudden a few weeks back, I noticed both the freezer and refrigerator sides have been getting warm. It seems that the fridge isn't kicking in to turn on the cold when it needs to. At first, I simply turned the temp knob 1 more higher and it would kick in and start getting cold again. Would have to do this every few days or so. Now, I turn the knob to off, wait a few seconds, turn it on and it fires up. Then good for a few days it seems.

Just wondering if this is because of a bad thermostat or defrost timer? I would like to fix this myself and was wondering what anyone knows what the problem might be?

Probably a bad temp control (thermostat). If you have to nudge it to make it perform, then it is faulty.
