Sears 70 Series Gas Dryer

Ok...so I got a phone call from my mother in law this am and she needs some help with her dryer.  I didn't get the model number but I know it's a Kenmore Gas 70 series.

I am going to look at it on Wed when I return from the shore.  Here's what she said is "wrong"....for a while now she's been just unplugging it to turn it off because she said her dryer would just keep running.  She's been doing this for a few years...it still worked fine otherwise.  Well she went to "turn it on" by plugging it in as she always does and it doesn't turn "on"...she said she hears clicking like it's cycling but the drum isn't turning....


I am going to troubleshoot it when I get home but I am looking for some ideas....any thoughts?

Most likely a bad timer for not turning off. Now, for not turning on, probably the timer also. Check the door switch for continuity. Check the thermal cutout on the blower vent for continuity.If they are both OK,replace the timer.

Call her and have her open the dryer door and get the model number so these guys can get their mind on their bidness :)

I've been away from my computer so I just saw this.  I will call her in the am....

jumptrout51 mentioned something about it possibly being a bad timer.  How do I check for continuity?  Does that involve a voltage meter? Is it a cheap enough part to just replace it?

It makes sense that if the timer controls her previous problem of the dryer not shutting off and now her current problem of it not coming on at all, that it would be the timer....

I can do anything if you guys walk me through it...thanks a bunch... I will get the model #

I would look at the start switch. If it has 4 wires then replace it. These cheap switches will stick on start.
A small black plastic box with 4 wires is a dead giveaway. To replace these you lift up the locking tab and twist the switch a quarter turn.

We don't even have a model number to work with yet.
Lets at least wait until we know just what we are working with here before you start taking wild guess.

Are you familiar with the answer I gave amigo? The old type start switches with 2 wires are pretty much good. The problema with the dryer starting when you shut the door is with these newer mexitronics would you not agree Kimosabe?

It's 110.76732500

Nice!  How do I get to the timer?  Where is it located on her dryer?  Do you know what tools I will need to take with me?  Thanks in advance
