GE Triton Dishwasher not fully draining

I have a 6 year old GE Triton Dishwasher that stops during the rinse cycle.  The rinse cycle will run for about 5 minutes before the dishwasher appears to reset. I can hear some of the water draining, but after the dishwasher stops, I still have about an inch of water in the bottom.  The dishwasher never gets to the drying stage of the cleaning cycle.

I've checked the connection between the dishwasher and the garbage disposal.  I removed the hose and made sure there was no visible blockage.  I removed the sump entrance screen and made sure there was no gook built up...this was clean.  I've looked in the self clean filter with a flashlight, and do not see any build up or blockage.

Any ideas on how to fix this?  Could it be the drain solenoid?  I would be grateful for any help I can get.

The turbidity sensor may be dirty. Try starting a light wash cycle using a quart of white vinegar poured into the tub after you hear the unit begin to fill. (No soap during this procedure). Let the unit run the Light wash cycle and see if it will go all the way thru.

I have tried the vinegar, but no luck, although this time, it does appear to complete the wash cycle.  There is still about 1" of water in the basin.  Any other ideas?

Disconnect your drain hose at the disposall or drain "Y" and look for a greasy buildup.
It drains on time, not volume.

Yes, check the lines...that's almost a given. in the long run, it sounds like you'll simply need a new drain pump.

Thank you for all the help.  I had previously checked the hoses, and they are clear.  If they drain on time, and not volumn, would it make sense to remove all the water in the basin, then run it.  Remeber, the vinegar did allow the dishwasher to complete the cycle.  Just a thought...I'm grasping at straws...

Get out the 'ol stopwatch.
Run your cycle.
Time each cycle, especially the drain cycle.
Compare these times to those posted in the Tech sheet in your DW.
If the drain cycle times out correctly, then RepairMan is right on again.(He usually is).

You might have a bad drain solenoid. This opens the flap to allow the motor to pump out. Sometimes gunk gets in the flap itself and won't allow it to open all the way.

JW, it helps if you know the anatomy of a particular unit before you make suggestions...

This model has a drain pump separate from the wash motor...it's either clogged or bad.

For many years GE had the old faithful sidewinder motor with solenoid flap. Now they go and screw that up too.I hate dishwashers. They are leaky,messy,nasty,and downright crappy to repair.

Hi All. I have checked all the things you mention here and on other sites. (Piston valve, drain pump, etc.). My unit only turns the drain pump on for about two seconds when it enters the drain cycle so it does not even start to pump water out. When in the F1 test mode, it will run the full 75 seconds and pumps out all water. I'm convinced there must be something screwy with the control module. I've tried the resets and everything else. Any thoughts?

It could be the control or it could be some sort of cheapass computer sensor. Measuring the turbidity of water within a dishwasher and washing machine allow the machines to run more efficiently by continually monitoring the particle levels in the water. The decrease or increase in voltage enables control optimization of water, time and energy efficiency. When installed in a dishwasher, the GE Turbidity Sensor supplies measurements to the washing controller module and based on those measurements the controller will determine how long the cycles will last. I would try replacing that bastard first.
