Where to locate the heating element on a Maytag Dryer
« on: July 21, 2009, 02:08:02 PM »
In a previous query you answered "what you need to do is pop the top, this element is located on top in the rear and is a snap to repair.
the top is held down by springclips. Unplug the dryer before attempting any repairs..." What I would like to know is where is the top that needs to be popped? Where do I start? I have the replacement thermostat and heating element. Why are there no installation intructions provided anymore? Why is it so hard to get a manual that shows more than how to push a button and twist a knob? Oops, do I get more than one question??? :'(     BTW, this has been the most help and thorough website I've visited in the last week, yeah, a whole week of searching...

You bought a new element and thermostat, yet don't know where they go? Are you sure they were bad?

Although there are no specific repair manuals for the general public on these, if you paste your model number into the lookup on the left, you will see every facet of the machine, including how the main top is released by clips on the front panel. The  top lifts up, the front panel comes off by removing 2 more screws and there  you are.

The diagram & Parts 'link' actually took me to the on-line site where I purchased my parts (no heat coming out, may be lint related, didn't check, my bad). I did ask before purchasing if I would rec' installation instructions, affirmative. Instructions rec'd were 'make sure to replace thermostat and element at the same time'. Their on-line chat person helpfully suggested I go on-line and find more detailed installation instructions and tadah, here I am. Unfortunately, where the 'link took me', that blow-up is the only one missing. So, my question now is...Where is the area to be addressed? In the back, on the top, inside, am I getting warmer? My dryer isn't...

Here is the missing diagram of the heating element for your model dryer.

Repair-man will know better then I, but I think if you can get the top lifted up you will find the heating element under the top near the back.

Repair man?!?!? Oh, that was a joke, right? Single women can't afford repair men. I've got a Beckman and know where the panel box is. Gonna hav' ta go from there.. And thanks for showing me what/which 'top'. I'm a visual person. Didn't know if the 'top' was the projecting part on top with all the knobs/controls. As far as the parts diagram, the only part I couldn't figure out was what in the world is part #2 suppose to be? Also, earlier web-search cluded me in to AOL cd or putty knife for tool to pop the 'top', gotz lucky, gotz both...thanks guys...

Single wimmen can afford me  O0  (no joke)

Sure hope you're right about the thing not heating. Could be a breaker or cord problem preventing the 240 volts. Only with a voltmeter will you find out fer sure.

Is that your clever way of saying you can't figure out what part #2 is suppose to be a drawing of either?? ;)
