Well I'm less pleased with LG customer service now

The repair tech called to set up an appointment and he said,"Oh by the way, LG said it's not under warranty after all unless it's the sealed system (compressor,etc)".  I told him to stay home since an in-home service would likely cost half as much as a new window.

Soooo.....I'm going to order the replacement probe and see what happens.  If that doesn't do the trick, I may pony up the dough for a new control board.  That leads me to my next question:
There are 2 control boards.  The DC one contains the display AND it's where the thermistor plugs into. BUT the AC board is the real "brains of the operation.  Which would you replace based on the problem I'm having?

I was going to make a comment before, but thought I best keep it to myself and just see how this turns out.

Lets not jump ahead of ourselves. Let wait until you get the new probe and try it.

Thanks for posting the link to the sensor.  It was $3.80 as you said, and the shipping was only $4.95.  MUCH better than $8 

It may take up to 6 days to get here, so I'll post back once I get it installed.  I have my fingers crossed.  Seems like everything I touched this past week has broke.  Just one of those weeks.

The problem is back, but with a new twist !

The unit worked perfectly for several weeks.  As you saw from the above posts, the original problem was failure to shut off unless I maxed out the thermostat.  I replaced the thermistor, and it worked perfectly.  Then the past few days, it was not keeping the room at/near the set temp.  Now the compressor won't come on unless you set the thermostat at the lowest setting (and then runs continuously).

I am pretty convinced I need to replace one of the circuit boards (there are two), but I just don't know which one.  Logic tells me to replace the one that the thermistor plugs into, but it also serves as the display.  I don't usually like to throw parts at something until it's fixed, so ANY help would be appreciated.

Also, is there any way to alter the title of this post to indicate that the problem is back (might get more readers??)

When it's running on low so the compressor kicks it does it seem to be cooling ok?

Once I get the compressor to kick on, it cools great.

I have the thermistor hanging out in the open air now (instead of next to the coils).  Once I got it out into some warmer air, the compressor will kick on at higher temps (of course).

Don't mean to butt in, but you probably need the main PCB shown below. The display board is working ok and communicates with the main board. The cooling relays are all on the main PCB. If you order from Repairclinic you can always return the part and shoot for the other board instead if for some reason it does not work out.

You're not butting in at all !  I have to be honest....I was just glancing at the avatar area and realized lots of folks have "AJ".  Then I realized the actual username is in smaller gray print above it.

So even though the thermistor plugs into the display board, it's the other board that would be faulty?  Do you think the new thermistor is bad now?  Or is the other board just "misreading" the thermistor output?

What really has me stumped is how the problem evolved:
1) Compressor would not shut OFF unless therm set to highest temp
2) Replace thermistor, works perfect for a few weeks
3) Compressor won't come ON unless therm set to coldest setting

I figure I'll go ahead and order the board you recommend.  I can't believe they allow returns on electronic items if it's not the problem!  That's awesome.
