belt broken

Went on a call today on an epic Z front load washer just over a year old that was making a terrible racket . I found the belt had shreaded and stringy bits of it had wrapped around the motor pulley making it slap the cabinet . The tub turns freely and the grooves on the motor pulley look fine . I can't figure out what would break the belt so quickly . Overloading maybe ? Any input would be appreciated .

One of the pulleys might have a burr on it.

There were vendor issues with some of the Neptune belts. Replace it and hopefully the problem is resolved. And yes, gross overloading would have contributed.

I went back and changed the belt today ..I think just as repair-man said it was just a bad belt . The drum pulley was as smooth as a babies butt, I was able to turn the pulley with no resistance at all,and the motor pulley had no burrs whatsoever. One thing I can say though ...I hate working on those blasted things when they're stacked and in a closet ...looks real pretty but when it breaks be prepared to pay the big bucks . I needed a second man to get the thing moved . Gettin to old for this sh#* .
