Amana refrigerator warm, freezing compartment cold
« on: July 07, 2009, 04:50:34 PM »
My Amana refrigerator is 4 years old and had the compressor replaced 19 months ago. The fresh food compartment went to room temperature. I read an old post by Dex and checked the coils in the back of the freezer and the 2 fans. Both the fan by the compressor and the fan in the freezer were running. The coils in the back of the freezer were frosted up. The compressor was running. I unplugged the fridge to clear the coils and the fresh food compartment has cooled off. The compartment setting is at 6 (it ran at 4) to maintain an inconsistent 39 deg f. The coils appear to be starting to frost up again. Any suggestions?

The most common problem with the Amana bottom mount freezers are the defrost thermostat. It is a small disc clipped to the tubing in the freezer compartment. Remove the back wall of the freezer and you will see a small in upper left side a unit about the diameter of a quarter and about 1 inch thick with 2 wires coming out of it. If the plastic cap so to speak is lop sided ( top coming up or peeling up on 1 side ) that is the problem. If that is not the visible problem you will need a meter to go further.

I think the defrost bi-metal is on the upper right hand of the evaporator .

Simply because dayum near every new box I see lately is low on freon. I charged one today. Does the stuff disapate or is it just undercharged from the factory? A question that has puzzled my brain fer some time. Perhaps you can splain it Mr Whirliciousness?

So if you happen to put a lot of washer couplers on lately are you going to tell everyone that post anything about there washer that it probably a bad coupler?

Your not making much sense in a lot of your post JW.

We are trying to help these people, not confuse them.

He said, "freezing compartment cold" and "The coils in the back of the freezer were frosted up" this sounds more like a defrost problem to me then low on freon.
