it could be under the plastic cover.. take a look.

as far as the belts, yes you usually can return parts (maybe depending on when you bought them)

I ordered the part and i just bought the belts last week and put them in on Thursday.

When the part comes in, may i contact you if I have trouble installing it? Even if I have to buy a timer (hope not) it is still cheaper than a new washer and a lot more satisfying to fix it for me!

You have been very helpful and patient.  Thanks and enjoy the beer, if it works, i will send you another!   O0

:tickedoff:( Not good news. The switch arrived and the installation drawings did not match the switch itself.  I did by best to install, nothing happened.  I finally called a repair man who could not get it to work either and said the motor was gone.

After he left I put the old switch back in (because I am a stubborn blonde), the humming noise returned and the motor is trying to turn, but stops and starts to smoke.  Sounds like it is time to go shopping!   :'(

Can you recommend a washer that does not cost an arm and a leg?

Pamela

from my previous post:

"Motor start switch for 2 speed motor, for motors w/production numbers 2-1666-2, 2-1666-11, 2-1666-12, 2-1666-14, and 2-4564-2"

I don't think the other start switch is avaliable, but I'll check.

nevermind, I didn't see that line "and starts to smoke"

What do you mean "2-speed"?

You should be able to get a good whirlpool top load washer for a good price.

Looking at the diagrams for your old maytag A608 I am going to guess that it's 25-30 years old.

Hope you find our website helpful.

normal & gentle speed cycle or switch

nevermind, I didn't see that line "and starts to smoke"

sometimes the Salvation Army stores have an assortment of washers & dryers, but you'd have to check every so often.

Goodwill stores don't seem to sell them.

So I assume that nevermind, I didn't see that line "and starts to smoke" means that it is dead!  I think I bought it in 1981 and took good care of it. Guess nothing lasts forever!

Thanks for all of the advice. I learned a lot!  You "guys" were great!
