Our Kenmore Heavy Duty 80 series washer is on the fritz!!!

This machine is old & I realize it won't last forever...but I want to fix it if possible...can you help?

It worked fine until a while back...when suddenly it didn't want to fill on its own. When we turned it on, it buzzed at us...but that was it. Out of necessity, we figured out that if we manually filled the washer (with a hose from the kitchen sink) it worked just fine. Basically, we had to provide the water for each cycle...but it would agitate, spin & empty on its own.

Just recently, we turned the washer on (heard the familiar buzz)...filled the washer with water...and NOTHING!? The buzzing noise stopped once the water level was reached & from there nothing happened other then the dial moving from start to finish. (We siphoned the water out & tried again...the same thing happened.) Any clue as to what is wrong? Can this be fixed??

This is a problem with the water inlet valve. You can turn the water to the washer off. Then remove the hot & cold water fill hoses from the back of the washer. Next take a look inside the water inlet valve were you just removed the two hoses. There are screens in there that can get plugged up. If they are plugged up clean them out and try it again.

If the screens are clean or they are missing all together you will need to replace the water valve.

I looked up your model number and your washer uses water valve part number: 285805.

Sounds like the lid switch went bad. Can you hear the lid switch click on and off as you open and close the lid of the washer? If you can't hear it click on and off chances are it's bad and need to be replaced.
