My wife says it isn't drying like it used to

The vent pipe is only 12" long, goes straight out the wall.  It blows fine, however, it seems to surge a little bit.  I put my hand up the vent on the dryer and nothing.  I stuck my fridge lint brush down in the lint trap hole and nothing.  I open the door up and it seems to be really hot in there.  She tells me the washer spin cycle is working fine that the clothes have all the water out of them, and they are caked to the side of the washer.  But she keeps complaining that she has to turn the dryer on for two cycles per load now.

Any suggestions?

I gotta tell ya I have one of these beasts. I bought a 4 wire control thermostat and replaced it. I took the filter housing out and washed it. that dryer just gets really hot. Did you look into the vent pipe itself? I had a halo of lint inside mine and that was the dang problem.

is the opening out the wall a true 4" hole?

i'm saying this, for all my fellow techs i will explain, up here our older houses used to drain all the eves into the house and out to the city sewers, this practice was banned, but many years later these already existing holes were converted to dryer vents
by the home owners

i just dunno if this was ever done down in the USA

Remove the rear vent channel and remove the obstruction inside it. Check the front and rear felt seals on the drum.

if you know how to use a meter, check contiuity between each terminal of the heater and the metal heater housing, the heater can break and ground out, half will still heat, but you only recieve half heat
