Need Maytag Skybox Help
« on: June 28, 2009, 08:59:40 PM »
My Maytag Skybox no longer cools..
I am able to get the compressor to start by turning the thermostat all the way down and then turning it back up. The compressor turns on for about 10 seconds and then shuts off. I am not sure if the relay is shutting off the compressor or if the shut off in the compressor is shutting itself off. I do hear a click when it shuts off.

It started to act up on a very hot day..  It got warm in the house that day when the air conditioning died  (about 88 degrees) and hasn't been the same since.. I see in the owners manual the high end of the operating range is 80 degrees..

Any ideas whet should do? Is it repairable or does this unit need to be retired?

Model MBV1976AAB

Made by Haier, the cooling parts of this unit are not field serviceable. Maytag only imported them for 2 years due to high service failures.

it could be either a bad compressor making the overload trip, or a bad relay or overload cutting out

a generic 3 in one relay/overload is not much money, so you might want to try one, they are not hard to install

the skybox is a nice lil unit if you can keep it running, shame to throw it away if it only needs a 25 dollar relay

If the parts of this appliance(which i have never even seen) cannot be field serviceable then BT, would a hard start be applicable? Dang it is getting hard fer me to type stuff.

I'm having the same problem. I have unplugged it for about 6 months just waiting for a solution to come up. Really miss it. :'(

DC did you check the relay? A lot of them have been recalled.
