Maytag MAH5500BWW stopped mid-cycle

My Front Load MAH5500BWW stopped mid-cycle with the door locked and the LED display blank.  It will not respond to any commands.  Ther eis water in the unit. There is power to the unit as the tub light is on.  I was going to just replace the Machine Control Board but don't want it to just blow again.  How do I diagnose the problem when I can't access any error/diagnostic codes?

Unplug it, remove the 4 screws around the inside of the door so you can remove the front panel. If the door is locked, there's a release cord under the soap dish cover that will open it.

Unplug the black and white connector from the motor control board on the bottom right corner, then plug the unit back in and try the main panel again. If it responds, the motor control shorted and must be replaced. If still no response, the upper control is bad.
