Hi,

1. Unplug the washer, turn the water off and remove the fill hoses from the back of the washer.

2. Remove the agitator.

3. Remove the cabinet.

4. Remove the pump and motor, there are just two clips that hold them on.

5. Title the washer back at about 45 deg. Do not lay it flat on it's back. Lean it on a chair or something.

6. Remove the three bolts from the bottom of the gear case/transmission and the transmission and clutch will slide out the bottom of the washer.

Once you have the transmission out you will see how the old clutch just sits on top with a clip.

When you put things back together make sure you get that little plastic tab in place with the clutch.

Here is a photo of how the clutch and plastic tab should go together.

The plastic tab will be connected to the brake and not just laying on top the clutch as in the photo, but it helps you see how it should line up.

You may also find the direct drive service manual helpful.

Pardon me if I'm wrong but isn't it sufficient just to make sure that the tab on the plastic brake release is away from the spring because it will automatically fall into place when the clutch rotates?

Guess that may work too. I have always just made sure it's were it should be to start with.

That liner comes out easy with pliers. No need to buy the whole assembly.

Other then the whole assembly is often cheaper. At least if were talking FSP Whirlpool factory parts.

I also just make sure the plastic tab on the brake release is 180 degrees away from the clutch spring and I have had no issues
