GE Profile (5 years old) sounds like machine gun!

Our 5 year old SS Profile sounds like a machine gun when starting and filling (I think thats when it is).
 It sounds like a wicked water pipe "hammer" that is lessened VERY slightly when I turn on the water at the kitchen faucet.  

Any ideas?

Over time, water  alkalinity causes problems with the valve's internal workings. A replacement water inlet valve will solve the problem for a few more years. When removing the old valve, save the brass fitting at the inlet to use on the new valve, as all fittings are different for various applications. Use teflon tape or pipe thread paste when  installing the fitting into the new valve.
