KitchenAid Wine Cellar - Themostat issues
« on: June 21, 2009, 04:48:55 PM »
I recently had trouble with my KA wine cellar (Model KUWA244PSS0) where it would not operate. While the light would come on, the motor would not run. The repair tech that came out identified the problem as a bad themostat. He ordered the part and I installed it to save on the return trip charge. Once installed the motor started right back up. Now, my problem is that it will not shut off...even on the lowest temp setting. Any suggestions?

Put a thermometer in it, or if you already can tell if itís too cold, Iíd say your new thermostat is no good, or the probe didnít get installed exactly like and where the old one was.

TJW,

How precise does the probe need to be installed into the back of the unit?  Also, could the thermostat be affected by how the wire is run from the switch in the front of the unit to the probe in the back (in other words, can the operation of the thermostat be impacted if the wire is too close to the warmth given off by the compressor)?  Your thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

Their are several types of thermometers. Some are designed to be mounted directly on the evaporator and thus the direct temperture of the plate is used rather than the ambient temperature.

Can you tell by looking at the picture from this link as to whether this thermostat needs to be mounted directly on the evaporator?

When you removed the old thermostat, did you pay attention to where the end of the sensing bulb was located? It runs behind the evap plate and is clamped to the bottom side with 2 phillips screws.
Also, if there was a plastic insulation sleeve on the old control, it must be transferred to the new one or it will run constantly.  Here is the Wine Cellar Service Guide although it does not go into specifics about the cold control.

That coil on the end of the thermostat is a dead givaway. That one mounts directly on the evaporator. That explains why the dang thang is getting too cold.

Follow those two technicianís directions and youíll be running smooth. Iím hoping it was you who removed the old one, so you know exactly how it goes back in. Itís really not too bad.

I think that I got it!  I did not realize that the sensing bulb needed to be clamped to the evaporator plate.  I have since made that adjustment and I am waiting to see if it will "cycle" at regular intervals.  It seems that was the logical solution.  Thanks to all !!!

Repairman really gave a good site for your machines repair. How about clicking on his little beer sign and buying him a beer. He has earned it.
