A little trick I learned 25 years ago. If the cold water screen in plugged, shut off the cold water hose ( leaver the hot on) & remove the cold hose from the valve. Next take your finger & stick it inside the valve from the rear & move it around (knocking debris loose) Set the water temp for WARM, put a rag under the open cold water on the valve & start the machine BREIFLY (1-5 seconds) on a fill position say 14 minutes regular wash. When the water starts to fill it opens both hot & cold solenoids, and back flushes the valve screen. There is almost no chance of any debris getting past the screens into the valve causing a failure (stuck open valve, flooding) This is the safest way I have found to clean the screens. If it is the hot, do the opposite.
