Ge Washer Burning Smell - Agitates YES - Spins Sort of
« on: June 19, 2009, 08:01:37 AM »
I took the front cover off to figure out why there was a burning rubber smell coming from the washer machine.

It agitates well. The belt and tub go back and forth like normal.

When it approaches to the first spin cycle the water drains and spins. However, it slows down and eventually quits making a hum sound and that smell appears.

By the time the second spin cycle comes it doesn't even want to move until I physically turn the agitator then it reluctantly moves and spins.

What could it be?

I replaced the belt and the problem remains. When it reaches the spin cycle the motor acts it wants to turn, but needs help to get turning. I do help it and I guess the momentum of turning the agitator gets the motor and transmission spinning.

The problem is just the crappy designed lawn mower quill transmission.  Like i said over the yeas these washers have been known as truck scale fodder. Just a big piece of junk. Not worth investing any money in.

That's what I figured from your previous post. I was hoping to revive it. I guess that won't be happening. Perhaps you happen to have any new washer recommendation?

I would RUN to Lowes and get the $300 Roper washer with absolutely no bells or whistles. A reliable product, easy to repair.
