GE Top Load Washer Leaking

GE washer won't shut water flow off when the water has reached the desired level in the tank.  Water goes above the holes in the tank and then starts coming out of the bottom of the washer flooding the floor.

turn off the faucets and get a replacement water valve

If the water stops when you stop the timer, the water valve is fine. You have a loose or broken air line tube running from the back of the tub up to the pressure switch.

Basically you need to remove the front panel and the main top so you can find the hose problem. Sometimes an extremely off-balance load can dislodge the tubing...sometimes mice will chew thru it. It may have just popped loose, but either way, the pressure switch on the control panel is not recognizing a full tub.

Thanks.  My husband did run an unbalanced load through the machine just a few days before we had the water overflow.  I'll check the tubing this evening and if that doesn't work, I'll repost.

if you have a leak while this washer is spinning especially an unballanced load then you needs ta change the bungies.

I opened up the washer this morning and the problem was definitely the pressure hose running between the tub and the water level switch.  It was almost completely clogged on the end that is attached at the tub end.  I cleared the clog and now the washer runs fine.

My question now is what would have caused the hose to clog in the first place.  I don't want it to happen again since it flooded my basement the last time.  It had some slimy, brown gunk in the end attached to the tub.

This buildup is caused by too much cold water washing. The grease and suds tend to accumulate on the inside of the tub and cause issues. I recommend a product like Tide Washer Cleaner or Washing Machine Magic to treat the symptoms.

Repair-Man, thanks so much for all of your help.  You are probably exactly right about the cause of the build-up.  My husband continuously washes in cold water.  Your help probably saved me $50-$100 in a repair bill to simply clean out a hose.
