Westinghouse Frost Free 631 Fridge won't cool!

Hi guys,

I have a Westinghouse Frost Free 631 which yesterday decided to stop cooling. I opened my freezer to find that all the meat had defrosted, and was not cool at all. The refrigerator side was also found to not be cooling. I called a guy about it, and he thinks it's my fan that is not working, as the motor can still be heard running.

Can someone please help me to fix this? It's pretty urgent. Thanks!

  How did he determine it was the fan without looking at it ?
Most of the time this would indicate a defrost problem (timer, heater,limit or thermostat).

Don't know mate... I told him that the motor was running but it wasn't cooling anything... so he automatically assumed it was the fan. He told me to try and turn it off and leave the doors open for 24 hours... would that work?

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
Check the freezer fan, is it running?
Check the condenser fan motor at the compressor,is it running?

Well the back wall of the freezer wall did have ice build up before it defrosted due to the lack of refrigeration!
I can't see any fans running mate... would I see it if I could?
Where abouts is the condenser fan motor at the compressor? All I know is that the fridge is making all the normal sounds that is always has...

Condenser fan is by compressor. Turning it off for twenty four hours will defrost the coil, refrigeration will start until coil ices up again.

ok well I will let you know how it goes! I will be turning it back on in about 15 hours... I hope it works!

Keep the doors open to help it defrost faster.
Also unplug the refrigerator or unscrew the light bulbs so they are not on when the doors are open as they can get hot and melt the plastic around them over time.

I used a "Shark" steam machine. Works well.

Hi again guys,

I turned the fridge back on after 24 hours, but it is still the same. The bottom half of the freezer is freezing, but that's all! The top part of the freezer is warm as well as the whole refrigerator...

This would indicate a system problem, leak or restriction.
