I have a whirlpool top/bottom fridge with ice maker. The ice maker appears to be part 2198597
It started leaking water non-stop last night. I turned off the water and pulled out the ice maker. Everything looked okay.
I'm not sure if I need a new ice maker unit, or a water valve.
My question is, with the ice maker unit pulled out of the freezer, and the water on, should water flow into the freezer? Or should the valve hold back the water while the ice maker unit is out of the freezer?
I saw this thread. http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?topic=1747.0
I pulled the icemaker out, but can't figure out how to seperate the round gear from the copper plate to clean it.
My hope is to isolate which part is bad, and replace that part.
Seems like its either the water valve, or the "do not rotate manually" part.
