I have a fridge I bought used about 1 yr ago. It was working great and then things started getting warm. It has been unplugged for a while. When I plug the unit in, the fan near the compressor kicks in and the fan in the freezer compartment kicks on. After about 20 seconds or so the fan at the compressor turns off, then about 20 seconds or so it comes back on and the cycle continues. The compressor never comes on. I am wondering if the starter relay at the compressor may be bad, but wanted a second or third opinion before purchasing things.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of them relays have been recalled. I would replace the relay.
