Kenmore - Sometimes it spins, sometimes it doesn't
« on: May 16, 2009, 10:31:07 AM »
Sometimes the washer will spin the load as it did when it was brand new.  Sometimes the load its dripping wet.  Even with small loads.  Earlier today the fab softener didn't come out of agitator.

Check your lid switch. Make sure it is tight. Check the lid switch actuator pin on the lid.
Could be time for a new lid switch. Jump it out and see if it works everytime. If so, replace it.

I replaced the lid switch last year.  Not saying that isn't the problem, but the washer won't agitate unless the lid is closed.

Try this little test...set the machine to a spin cycle with no load. Raise the lid and use a pen or other pointy object to push down the lid switch actuator on the right side of the top. With the other hand hold the top rim of the spin basket in a semi-fiim grip. When you press the switch down and the motor starts, there should be a good tug on the spin basket...in fact if the clutch were in good shape, the basket will spin out of your grip. If the basket can be easily held down with the one hand, your clutch is in need of replacement.
