Need advice on Maytag agitator shaft being hot.

I just put in a tub bearing and seal kit per manual and after spinning the machine for approximately 4 minutes like called for the part where you screw down the inner tub was to hot to hold your fingers on. Is this normal or should I take it back apart? Oh I just hand tightened the screw down part of the seal so I don't think I over tightened it but I do think that was as far as it would go. Would just the friction on the carbon seal do this? The tub is sitting down all the way. I doubled checked and I put the other part of the seal all the way down to the bottom of the outer tub. The spin cycle was quite, no unusual sound from the transmission. I hope I haven't screwed up the new parts because they are to high to replace again.
