Kenmore washer won't drain, agitate or spin

I have an old kenmore washer, 70 series I believe.

When the machine should be spinning or agitating, I just hear a hum.

Would this be the motor?

The pump in them washer will lock up. When was the last time you changed the pump?

I've never replaced the pump, or anything else on this machine.

After having it unplugged for 4 days, it appears to be working again.

How do you get the machine apart?

I can't figure out how to get the top or back off the machine.

When I check Model Number 110.82873120 with the sears database it comes up as a washer.

Yes, the number is correct and it is a washer. The number comes up on sears site as a washer.

If it wont drain agitate or spin and you hear no noise whatsoever it must be the lid switch and not something in the pump as I first imagined. A loose lid hinge can cause the strike to not hit the hole and that could cause it to be intermittant.
