I can answer that one ....with the power off the ice cubes probably began to glaze over as they melt. This can sometimes freeze up the cube shifter rod which connects in the back to the yoke solenoid. If the rod was in the down position or was otherwise improperly inserted into the slot after the power-down, the symptoms you describe would have occurred.
By removing and re-inserting the ice bin, the rod in back obviously fell into the correct spot.
