Kenmore ice maker crushes even on cube setting

My mom's frig started doing this after a power outage.  It crushes all the ice even on the cube setting.  It crushes on the crush setting also.  The water works fine.  It did this once before after a power outage and we called the repairman.  He ordered a circuit board that he installed behind the outer door's ice maker panel.  And now it has done it again.  Can someone tell me what part to get and how to install it so we can do it ourselves?  Thanks in advance!

Pull your ice bin out, then reinsert it into the locked position.

Just kidding Tailspin.
There is a solenoid in the back corner of the freezer. The ice bin has to be in the correct position for it to activate correctly for crushed or cubed.
There is a metal arm on the bin that goes into the solenoid opening, to be lifted for cubed ice. Static for crushed ice.

How did the power going off affect the bin's position or did it affect the solenoid?

I can answer that one ....with the power off the ice cubes probably began to glaze over as they melt. This can sometimes freeze up the cube shifter rod which connects in the back to the yoke solenoid. If the rod was in the down position or was otherwise improperly inserted into the slot after the power-down, the symptoms you describe would have occurred.

By removing and re-inserting the ice bin, the rod in back obviously fell into the correct spot.

What Repairman said is correct.
I have also seen a similar result from the cubes freezing together in the bin.
When you activate the auger the frozen cubes will make the bin "jump" and become dislodged. Next time you try you get crushed.
Just remember before you call for service...remove then re-insert the bin.
If that does not work please call a under paid overworked appliance tech.

Well, that makes sense.  Sometimes when it get warm & humid in the house, in our Whirlpool the cubes melt glaze and get caught in the turning mechanism that ejects them.  So I can see how that would jump the bin.  We will try that next time the Kenmore does it before we call one of those overworked techs.  Thanks again!
