On the Maytag atlantis and performa, that spring tool works well. Lifts up the springs to install and remove rather easily. You stick the one end in the hole in the base, and just squeeze. As for the heater, I use those all the time. I was using aluminum ties that you use for wire fences. But, as AJ said, it makes a better presentation to walk in with the kit. Just putting a wire on that I paid a whole 10 cents for is harder to justify to customer. I think that kit I pay 5 and some change for and it lists for 12.50 but I usually charge 19.95 for the kit.
