Sears/Roper surface burners

 Upon power up of the range the surface burner light is on and draws 120 volts. The burners are cold until turned on. After the burners are turned off they don't completely cool. They still draw some power. The burner switches tested ok. I replaced the indicator light. I'm not sure where the problem is.

Is there only one surface burner light for all four burners or does each burner have it's own light?

If there is only one light for all four burners you can unplug the wire that feeds 120 volts to that light. The wire will run to the back of all four switch's.

Once you have the wire unplugged from all four switch's plug the range in and check the back of each switch to see what one is putting out 120 volts when the switch is turned off.

Replace the switch that is putting out 120 volts to the light when it's turned off.

After the burners are turned off they don't completely cool. They still draw some power.

Still sounds like a problem with the switch.

Did you put a meter on the burner wires and check for voltage with the switch turned off?

All four burners stay warm. There is one light for all four burners. If I disconnect the light the burners work normally. The burners don't draw power when the range is initially plugged in. It's not until they have been turned on then off.

Did you try and measure the voltage off the switches to see what one was keeping the light on?

I have seen were a switch will fail like that. I think if you find out what switch is keeping your light on and replace it you will be fine. Unless you have something like a wire grounding out someplace, but on this type of oven the wires are all out in the open and easy to check just buy looking at them.

I would be interested in what Repair-man has to say about this problem.

 All the switches draw voltage when they are off. If I unplug the range and plug it back in the surface burner light comes on and there is no voltage to any burner until it is turned on. Then when the burners are turned off they stay warm.

As they already said, you have one or more defective surface switches.
Remove your wires from the switches and use a volt/ohm meter set to ohms and check the contacts on each switch. L1 to H1. L2 to H2 in the on and off positions. Most switches are L1 to P for the light.
If the light stays on with the switches off you have a bad switch.If the surface element is staying warm put your clamp on amp meter on your wire and check amp draw.Remove one element at a time until the amp draw goes away. Deal with that receptacle and switch.
