Whirlpool 2 speed 8 cycle wasting water

When I start my cycle on the toploader water goes straight from intake directly to the drain pipe instead of staying inside the drum , please advise

The drain pipe must be 38" from the ground and not sealed off. If you hang it any lower siphoning will occur. Siphon-break kits are available to prevent this if you are unable to adjust your hose configuration.
