washer walks across floor

Kitchen aid washer spins off balance, and keeps getting worse. Drum has a plastic ring mounted to the top that has liquid in it.  Should it or has it taken on water? Seems like water spinning around the top would make it off balance.

The water is supposed to be there as a counter-balance. If you have a weak or poorly supported floor, the washer cannot stabilize. Your KitchenAid has 2 adjustable legs on back, and to set them you would tip the machine forward on the front legs, then set it down. The self-adjusters may not be working right, or the floor may be  problematic...this is the usual finding.

There are also 4 springs under the tub to stabilize it even further. If you had a very overloaded machine, these tub springs can break, or fall off. The best way to see is by removing the outer cabinet and having a looksee..

thanks repair-man, i have the cabinet off, rebuilt the gearbox but when i put the tub back in it started bouncing all over, not too bad until it goes into high speed towards end of spin. it has been a little rough for a while but is real bad now that i worked on it again. maybe laying on its back for a week waiting for parts had an effect on it?

Yeah, Hutch...probly...
You NEVER lay one of these over, trust me. If you need to slip the tranny out, merely drop the motor and pump first, then lean the basically lighter machine base against the wall just far enough to let the tranny slip  down and out.  Laying it over too long can also cause fluid loss, but if only a 1/2 cup or so, no problemo

Let's look closely at:

stretched tub springs
bent skate plate (between tub & support)
worn snubber pads on plate

Maybe that's why it seems a little worse each time i work on it huh? I'll try some springs and see if that makes a difference.
