Kenmore HE2 Washer Belt Fell Off
« on: April 18, 2009, 07:15:52 PM »
I've owned this washer just over a year. I replaced the CCU two weeks ago. Ran great for two weeks until today. The washer stopped spinning. I openned up the back of the washer and the belt was off. The drive pulley on the back of the tank is very wobbly, but the nut holding it on is tight. Am I looking at a coupler, bearing, transmission, etc...? Are there other issues I need to adress that may have caused this problem? Thanks  :D

You will have to take the nut off and pull the drive pulley off to see which part is damaged. It is probably the pulley but it could be the shaft. If it's the pulley just replace it (and get a new belt) if it's the shaft you've got a big expensive problem.

Finally got the pulley off. It appears that the nut may never have been tight. Half of the threads on the nut holding the pulley in place are destroyed and the shaft is completley stripped. I am an Acura mechanic. As a mechanic we have it in our heads that we can fix anything. Is this something I can fix? Is this shaft a press fit, requiring special tools to remove? Am I crazy? :D Thanks so much for your help. O0

The shaft is attached to the inner spin basket and is a huge job to remove you have to pull the whole tub assembly out and seperate the two outer shells. Your other option being a mechanic might be to tap the hole in the shaft and install a helicoil or put in a larger bolt. It's only job is to hold the pulley snugly onto the shaft.
