Kenmore elite fridge problem

I have a 7 year old Kenmore that will shut off from time to time and not come back on without unplugging. Only the door light remains on but all digital numbers and compressor shut off.
Unplugging brings back on. Happens about every 2 weeks.

Need a model # but I would guess a faulty motherboard.

Even when set at 0 deg f   freezer is -10 to -20 and fridge is 40f set at 33.
Could be thermostat ?? and overload shuts it off

Well Scotty, I replaced the dilithium cristal board and it still gets too cold. Even when set at +5 freezer goes to -25. So much for mother boards which are supposed to control the whole ship.
Do you think I should just ship the whole box to Rigel 3 and forget about it?

Sounds like the air damper in the top left inside the refrigerator is bad or frozen open causing too cold condition in the refrigerator.

Thanks for the reply. The freezer compartment is the problem not the refrigerator.
The damper motor and damper work fine. I can change the temperature without problem but freezer is the one that will not go below -20....even after replacing the control board.
It must be the sensor or some other thing that lets the board know what temperature is in the freezer.
What do you guys think

Well I would replace the thermistor (sensor) as they are relatively cheap and can be the cause of such problems.

The thermister might have become unattached from its mounting or it might just be bad.

I believe this is the thermistor part number. I looking it up using the model number you post.

Looks like it just plugs into the board, maybe one of our appliance technicians can say for sure.

all these dang new ice boxs and their dayum sensors and stuff can drive you batty. Here is what they do. They sense resistance changes in the freezer. As the thermostat calls for more compressor cooling the frost on the coils relay back to the board through these dang sensors. You need to look in the freezer compartment for these dudes. if they get detached from the coils they cannot send the propper resistance changes to the board and nothing will work right.
