Roper Washer Tip?
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:27:04 AM »
Wondering if anyone has a tip to share? I just replaced timer, coupling, and full transmission(gear case) in my washer and overall looks and runs like new! Only area that caught my attention is area just below "tub ring"(basin neck) is a little worn or rough, not really rusted. Any coating out there that I can apply to upper neck just under tub ring to prevent further wear/rust or possible holes in future? Kinda afraid to use fiberglass to coat due to possibility of splinters getting into clothing.

Thanks!

That part is called the Drive Block , and it powers the spin basket. It is made of a mixed metal combination which can over time corrode due to detergent  and  bleach exposure. Fortunately, it is an easy part to replace, as long as you have the spanner wrench to remove the spin basket nut. Do not apply any sealant on this part, as the  agitator shaft seal which is part of the  basket drive tube under the block, can fail.

I think he was talking about the tub itself.
The finish is often poor under the agitator. Not much you can do about it.

Oops, yeah, I see that now. He can help dissolve that soap ring with plain old white vinegar and a rag.

I did not see that soap ring the first time. :)
Yes, some white vinegar should clean that up.

I was thinking he was talking about the poor finish too.
Hope you find our site helpful.

O0 Thanks! You are right, just detergent scum. I cleaned with vinegar and water and big improvement - didn't realize that finish was suppose to be a little off from rest of tub. I was worried about rusting after putting $$$ into replacement parts. Thanks again!
