ge refrigerator probs, please help!!

ok guys here is what i got, my fridge is bout 5 yrs old, for the last yr about every 2 months or so the fridge will quit cooling for about 10 hrs or so and then all of the sudden start up again and it might work for 6 weeks with no probs..the defrost heater is ok, think it might be the defrost timer but im not sure...this fridge is driving me nuts, always having to watch it closely and everything...please help me out here guys............ O0

Check for power at the compressor when it is not cooling. The condenser fan motor should be running if power is going to the compressor.
The electronic defrost timer is built into the control board.
Probably a bad board.

On the rear of the refrigerator behind a cover with about 6 screws in it.

do you think it would be a good idea to just replace that whole board first off, and see if that fixes my prob? and what is the going price of a board like that?

Before buying the board, I would buy the sensors. Way cheaper. That board constantly checks for changes in resistance in them there sensors. If a bunch of mess is on these thermister/sensors then they cannot give an acurate signal to that board. The manual gives a detailed instruction and lists what each ohm reading should be for these puppys.

 just plugged in fridge with the new board and the fridge hasnt come on yet....is this a bad sign or what??

got the board in and seems to working like it should, one thing though, the fan in the freezer has been running non stop, is this normal, seems like it should kick off ever now and then....
